Current Status of Russia Adoptions:

Adoptions Continue But We Do Need To Help! The Mission Continues!

So far: The Russian and United States officials have recently held two very productive meetings. The U.S. State Department published a statement on intercountry adoptions in Russia. It is our understanding that independent adoptions will no longer be permitted, only COA/Hague and Russia Accredited agencies will be able to complete adoptions from Russia. It is also understood post adoption requirements will be expandedto meet the needs of families and their children.

That being said, outrage continues regarding the abandonment of a child by his Tennessee mother...

In response, the following steps have been taken to date:

1. NCFA has filed a petition to open an investigation into possible abuse or neglect of the 7 year old Russian boy, who was adopted and then sent back on a plane to Russia alone, by his mother. NCFA filed this petition "due to the impact on member agencies certified to do Russian adoptions and prospective parents currently waiting finalization of Russian adoptions."

2. Thousands of people have requested that justice prevail in this case and many of you have sent letters to Tennessee representatives. We are asking that you forward any and all emails or letters that were submitted to these officials. Please forward your letters to margaret@eaci.com. Margaret will soon be traveling to Russia and will be participating in meetings. She would like to take as many letters as possible to show the Russian officials that our families are demanding that justice prevail in this case.

3. EAC is planning to host a meeting with other agencies, social workers, and adoption professionals at our office in late June. The topic of this meeting will focus on post adoption reporting and family support for families that adopt from Russia. EAC's post adoption requirements are currently more stringent than most agencies. We are hoping, through education and communication, that all agencies join us in providing the most thorough post adoption process. EAC is committed to working with Russsian officials and the U.S. adoption service providers to promote the efficient and regulated procedures to insure the well-being of their children.

Expanding these programs and providing additional resources to the adoption community are essential components in maintaining healthy familes, keeping programs open, and finding childen homes... thank you for your financial support of this mission.

We continue to move in the right direction of securing Russian adoptions... we can't stop now!
