EAC Guatemala Mission Trips

Families Building Families

Margaret has just returned from New Dawn where she had a great time with the kids!  The children and staff enjoyed all the donations she took down from EAC Families.   Check out the new pictures!

NEW MISSION TRIPS PLANNED!!!

We will be going to visit and serve the kids at New Dawn on March 26 - 29th and June 25th - 28th!  The March trip will be extra special, as we will be in Antigua, Guatemala for the Palm Sunday processions.  This is a fascinating time to visit the colonial town of Antigua, a Unesco Cultural Heritage site, with the grandest holy week celebration in all of Latin America.  This will be an amazing experience!  Because we need to make hotel reservations as soon as possible, please  write Kala at eacsofla@comcast.net or call her at 615-332-2408 for more information.

Our mission trips have been a huge success! We have scheduled the first Mission Trip for 2010! At this time we are not in need of any cosmetic assistance, but we do need financial and material assistance. Currently, we have a few families reaching out to their church groups, civic groups, school organizations, etc. to assist with this mission.

Through our initial fundraising campaign, in which we raised over $40,000, we were able to secure the following:

  1. Rent for the orphanage for one year.
  2. Payment of attorney fees for licensing/permission to operate an orphanage. Registration with the Guatemalan government.
  3. Purchased a refrigerator, microwave, television, a few cribs, toddler beds, tables and chairs.
  4. Hire and train a couple of caregivers, a security guard, and groundskeeper.

The orphanage will be able to accept additional babies/children as soon as we can provide the following necessary items:
  1. Funding for staff
    1. Foster Moms - we will hire former foster moms to provide care for the children. They will be paid $350/month plus $50 of food to take home to their families. We will need 2 caregivers for every 5 children. We are hoping to care for 40 children (16 foster moms needed)
    2. Security Guard/Maintenance – we need to hire 2 individuals to provide security and routine maintenance. They will need to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  2. Bedding – additional baby cribs, bunk beds for older children. Pillows, Sheets, and Blankets
  3. Food – baby food, powdered milk, beans, rice, cereals, crackers/cookies.
  4. Dishes – bottles, cups, plates, bowls and utensils.
  5. Medicine – aspirin, bandaids, first aid kits
  6. Miscellaneous – Diapers, Washable Toys, Art Supplies, Chairs, Tables, Cleaning supplies

As financial assistance is received we will then go to a local Wal-mart, Costco, or food store and purchase the goods and deliver them to the orphanage.

Thank you for making a difference!
