Our
Story Is Like Many Others...
Our story is like many others, starting with the two of
us thinking we could get pregnant on our own. After one year we sought help from our neighborhood gynecologist. He
sent us away with and optimistic diagnosis, reassuring us that we could get pregnant.
Another year later we started seeing an infertility specialist. We set a time limit for
the infertility treatment process an agreed to pass on more costly and complex procedures
such as invitrofertilization. The decision to set a cut-off date was very important and we
recommend it to anyone dealing with infertility. After months of disappointing results, a
friend asked us "Do you want to be pregnant or be parents?" The latter was
definitely for us!
Following
our last childless Christmas holiday in 1998, we called EAC. We were very excited about
the adoption process and the prospect of becoming parents and having a child to love. And
in September 1999, eight and a half months after calling EAC we were in Chita, Russia (a
six-hour plane ride from Moscow) meeting out daughter Abigail 3 1/2 years old and our son,
Hayden, 11 months old. As we drove away from the Children's Home looking at Abby and
Hayden, we said to each other "Isn't it great that we didn't get pregnant?" Two
years later our children are doing great and we continue to thank God for His many
blessings and for His infinite wisdom and in now allowing us to get pregnant!
