A Guatemala Adoption Story
At 45 I decided that I was “ready” to be a Mom, but not “ready” to give birth. Friends of
mine had adopted a baby girl from Russia through EAC. I investigated adoption possibilities
online and found it to be a bit overwhelming. I just went ahead and began the process with
EAC since my friends were so thrilled with their little girl.
Through my research, however, I did decide to adopt from Guatemala because the children were
not in orphanages, could come home as infants, and traveling was easier.
I completed the initial application and then decided that before I continue I should meet the
people from EAC since I lived in a different State. I attended their annual picnic in May, but wanted to meet with the Guatemala staff in EAC’s office. When I arrived I was told that
it happened that the staff was all attending a brunch at Margaret Cole’s house with the
coordinator from Guatemala, Hector. To my surprise and enjoyment I was invited to Margaret’s
home to meet with them. That’s it! I was sold on EAC!
»He is the light of my life. He has changed my life in ways I cannot even describe.
My Erik came home in December of 2004. He is the light of my life. He has changed my life in
ways I cannot even describe. He is affectionate, calm, funny, and so enjoyable (and of course,
the handsomest little boy I have ever seen). Any bumps in the road that I experienced during
the process were all a faded distant memory once I got my little boy home. Lauren, Lisa, Tori,
and Hector deserve kudos for their hard work and handholding during the process.
THANK YOU EAC!
